Unless you’ve been paying attention to right-leaning news sources, odds are good you haven’t heard about the Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s “House of Horrors” trial. That’s not your fault. Despite the fact that Gosnell is on trial for seven counts of murder, the mainstream media has hardly made a peep about the case. Why? Because Gosnell ran an abortion clinic in Philadelphia where he performed thousands of late-term abortions.
You may be thinking, “Hey, there are cases relating to late-term abortions all the time, right?” Maybe, and that’s a problem to address in another article. But this case is so much more sickening than your average abortion case and the complete and utter lack of attention it has gotten in the mainstream media makes it even worse. When the FBI raided this “house of horrors” they found everything from severed limbs stored in jars to heinous working conditions.
The Kermit Gosnell trial should be present in all of the media outlets. Why isn’t it? It’s hard not to jump to the liberal bias of the ‘mainstream’ media as the culprit. One pro-choice blogger, Megan McArdle of The Daily Beast, recently admitted that the mainstream media is burying coverage of the trial simply to protect abortion.
“But I understand why my readers suspect me, and other pro-choice mainstream journalists, of being selective—of not wanting to cover the story because it showcased the ugliest possibilities of abortion rights. The truth is that most of us tend to be less interested in sick-making stories—if the sick-making was done by “our side…Moreover, surely those of us who are pro-choice must worry that this will restrict access to abortion: that a crackdown on abortion clinics will follow… that a revolted public will demand more restrictions on late-term abortions.”
McArdle admits that liberal slanted media doesn’t want people to associate abortion with such barbarities. McArdle admits that they don’t want to cover horrific stories that portray abortion negatively. Most importantly, McArdle admits that they don’t want people to know that it’s not unusual at all for full term babies to be born alive after an abortion – and then killed after living viably outside the womb.
To the “mainstream” media, this is my message to you: The case against Kermit Gosnell is not about politics and abortion. It’s time you stop fearing what potential political consequences may come as a result of the case and start reporting it for what it is: a human rights case.
